Tips…

There are several ways of connecting load-bearing and non-load bearing partitions to external walls. The first — the conventional method — involves connecting every second row of the wall together by simultaneously constructing both the external and partition walls.

Another method is to embed anchors or accordingly bent reinforcement bars in the horizontal joint of every second row of the external wall at the partition connection point. These are then embedded in the horizontal joint of the partition wall when constructing the partition wall.

The third method: anchors are attached to the completed external wall using a dowel or screw system. Subsequently, the partition wall is built as previously described. Factory-made anchors can be used, or anchors can be made on site, following a structural engineer’s instructions.

Before plastering, it is preferable to fill any defects in the wall with heat-insulating brick mortar before plastering. It is recommended to cover the wall at the end of the working day to protect it from inclement weather. Soaked-through ceramic block walls have a significantly reduced water absorption capacity, which may make it difficult to perform masonry and finishing works before the wall dries out.
